idents draft one

Design feature of ITV2

Density of Information
In this ident, there is a relatively high density of information. At the very beginning of the ident, the ITV 2 ident shows a man holding a fan trying to blow a balloon in the air which is visually good and then whilst you are watching you can hear the announcer in the background speaking to us about the shows that are next to come on and what is coming on after that which is verbally good because they are telling us what we want to know, this is good because the ITV 2 ident is appealing to there target audience.

Composition
The composition of the ident is balanced. The ITV 2 logo is displayed going right through the middle before it vanishes whilst the two guys play with the balloon and fans on the full screen in the background throughout the clip. There are no close ups  or different type of shot changes in this clip so that it keeps the focus on the viewer’s focus on the men playing and the announcer talking at the same time. This tells me the composition of the ident is good as it keeps the audience focus on the screen for them to find out what’s coming on next, it keeps the audience focused on the screen long enough to know what's coming on next without having to find out what's coming on next.

Space and Time
The ident is set in work place trying to target the people who work and want to come home and relax with some TV; this is because ITV2 are trying to target an audience after a certain time during the days as it’s known for being a family channel after a certain time they are trying to change that so it meant just for adults because they have made specifically for adults they don't want children viewing it.

Tempo
The tempo of this ident is quite slow paced it is only 16 seconds so they are trying to let the audience see as much as they need to in that time and for them to be able to announce what is coming on so that the audience don’t get bored and change the channel they make it slow paced but short as well so the ident gets straight to the point this helps to become more engaged so they keep watching.

Interaction with Viewers
The information in this ident is formal kind of because they are trying to interest adults the announcer uses adult humour that children won’t really understand about the programme. He talks to us not like he is reading a speech but like he is speaking to us in person so that it is more interesting, it is like he is speaking to the audience like he is one of their friends but also he does it in a formal way, he does this so that the viewers dont change the channel and they continue to listen to what he has to say.

Information or Entertainment led?
This ident is about information as well as entertainment the picture in the background the men are just playing with fans and balloons instead of getting on with work and the lady just causally walking across the screen supposedly in style are for the audiences entertainment, but when the announcer reads out what is coming on next and then after that ITV2 are also trying to give us information we would like to know, they do this so we remain interested in the channel and carry on watching it.

Channel 4 ident

Density of Information
The density of information in this indent is relatively high and high level of verbal information being spoken throughout the ident but there is no visual information being shown. Other than the Channel 4 logo towards the end of the clip, all communication is verbal. The announcer says what is coming on next and also informs the audience that what is coming on next can be disturbing for some viewers this tells me that the channel is being considerate, this is saying that if they find it disturbing they should change the channel this is because they want there viewers to come back and watch the channel but they want to be helpful by giving helpful information.

Composition
The composition of this ident done well; this part is filmed from the view of the driver passing a gas station Throughout the ident, verbal information is being relayed to the audience, while the picture on screen moves from right to left. The location on the screen is displayed through the eyes of a driver, passing through a small town with a motel and gas station I thing channel 4 have done this to catch the attention of the viewers by showing the audience something interesting whilst information is being read out I think this is a good way to entice the audience because it stops them from changing the channel.

Tempo
The tempo of this ident is relatively slow as it is trying to show us what is going on in the background as well as the information being read out what is coming on so that the audience don’t get bored and change the channel they make it slow paced but short as well so the ident gets straight to the point but they have also managed to make it short and interesting for that the audience that want to watch and listen to the ident, this is because they don't want the audience to get bored and lose interest so they make it as short as possible.

Space and Time
The Channel 4 ident is set in a small, town in America. I would say this because there is an old Motel/Gas station in a  desert type place. The ident is set at when the sun is just about to go down, the sky is gradually turning darker as the car is driving along. This setting suggests that Channel 4 are now able to play more adult type programmes as they have passed the time for when they have to show appropriate programmes that’s why the announcer says that programme may contain violent/sexsual scenes this is to make sure the audience know what the next show is gonna contain so they can change the channel as channel 4 can be suitable for all ages at times.

Interaction with the Viewers
The interaction with the viewers in this ident is pretty good as it shows a driver driving through and is getting darker this shows that the programmes are now for adults who are coming home for work that’s why I think the audience interaction is quite good.

Information or Entertainment led?
This ident is information led. As it is trying to tell you a lot of information as they can in that space of time it is used to tell the audience what is coming on next and who it is suitable which is adults because it was a late time, this means for adults to come home and relax and watch this means that they would have more viewers which would boost the popularity of the channel.

ITV  1
Density of information-
This ITV ident has verbal information throughout. The information it gives is the programme which is on coming on next the announcer tells us what programme is coming on along with what is also on after that. ITV have done this to capture the audience by making sure if the programme they want is not next there is one they might want to watch afterwards and they hope that this will reassure viewers to watch.

Composition-
The ITV logo appears during the ident. The logo changes colour most of the time during the Ident but it is placed on the left of the screen, probably to make the girl spinning the hoop seem more important. ITV probably placed it there because when the hula-hoop spins around the colour changes which mean its eye catching which brings it to the attention of the audience.

Space and Time-
This ident is set in the modern time like now, ITV have used modern day colours to interest the audience, they make sure it’s at night you would not be able to see the bright colours better which would entice the audience more.

Tempo-
The text appears quite slowly to make sure the audience see it but the girl spinning the hula hoop is done quite quickly. ITV slows everything down to make sure the audience can see and understand what is happening.

Interaction with the viewers-
The interaction this ident has with the audience is good as it basically trying to get you in a Saturday night mood where you’re having fun and partying. This is good because at those later times it’s meant for adults so that means ITV are targeting the right audience.

Information vs. Entertainment- ITV shows are very entertaining for the audience they are targeting so they did well to get this ident across to the older audience as you will not want to change the channel, the information is quite good as well as we find what two programmes are coming on next which stop the viewers from changing the channel.
